Bill introduced in Congress to set new standards for teen drivers

Automobile crashes are the number one killer of teens in America. Many believe that 16 year old's do not yet have the skill, maturity and judgment required to operate a nearly two ton machine. CNN reports today that lawmakers have introduced legislation to set new standards for when teens can drive, including restrictions on driving at night and how many passengers a teen driver may have. The bill sponsored by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Maryland would withhold federal highway funds from states that do not enact these new teen driver restrictions.

4 critically injured in crash on SE Side

The Chicago Tribune reports this morning that at about 2:30am four people were seriously injured in a hit & run car crash. Police report that one car fled the scene after causing another car to crash into a pole. The incident occurred at W. 155th St. and S. Torrence Ave. on the South East Side. Chicago Fire Ambulances arrived on the scene and took the serious to critically injured victims to both Cook County Stroger Hospital and Advocate Christ on 95th.

My hope in learning about a crash like this is not only that the victims recover soon, but that the owner of this car has auto insurance. Illinois requires policy holders to have and insurance companies to provide what's called uninsured motorist provisions, commonly known as "UM" in their policies.

I'm very experienced at prosecuting UM/UIM claims on behalf of those injured in hit & run car crashes and those hit by individuals with insufficient policy limits.
